2025 marks several anniversaries including the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway opening and 65th anniversary of the Middleton Railway being preserved. Two lesser known anniversaries, but equally important (in our opinion anyway!), are the 90th anniversaries of No.6 and Sweet Pea. Both of these locomotives were built in 1935 albeit many miles apart with No.6 being built by Hawthorn Leslie in Newcastle whilst Sweet Pea was built a short distance from Middleton in Leeds by Hunslet. Despite their grand age, both locomotives remain operational at Middleton.
On Sunday 20th July only, both locomotives are scheduled to be in use (subject to the usual operational availability!). No.6 will be operating the normal steam service between Moor Road and Park Halt.
For an additional cost of just £5, you can also travel behind Sweet Pea which will be operating brake van rides in Moor Road yard. This will only be the second day Sweet Pea will be out following overhaul so come and see her gleaming!
Â
Journeys leave Moor Road at 10:30, 11:10, 11:50, 12:30, 13:30, 14:10, 14:50 and 15:30. A full return trip takes approximately 25 minutes.
All return tickets are Day Rover tickets, which means you can use them on any (or all) of our scheduled journeys on the 20th.Â
Brake van ride tickets are sold separately on the day for a cost of £5, these entitle you to a brake van ride in Moor Road Yard with Sweet Pea.
