Think model railways are just for the “experts”? Think again! This year, the Middleton Railway Model Railway exhibition is pulling out all the stops to deliver a high-speed day of fun that the whole family will love.
Whether you’re a toddler obsessed with “choo-choos” or a grandparent looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, there’s something truly mesmerizing about seeing these tiny worlds come to life.
Highlights:
- Intricate Model Railways: Discover intricate layouts from across the country. From bustling cityscapes to sleepy countryside villages, the level of detail is enough to make your jaw drop!
- Ride the Real Thing: Your ticket doesn’t just get you into the exhibition—you can experience the thrill of a full-sized steam or diesel train ride on the world’s oldest continuously working railway.
- Family Fun: A perfect day out for all ages, with activities and entertainment for the whole family.
- Trade Stands: Discover a treasure trove of model railway supplies, accessories, and collectables. Traders include Going Loco, Helm Models & Hobbies, and Leigh Models & Hobbies.
We are expecting fifteen layouts in a variety of scales including OO, EM, N, and 009.
Layouts will include: Stanley Ferry (OO), Leeds Trams (OO), Queensbury Depot (O), Bryn Oriog (009), Bishopgate (O) and Oakdale (OO).
Reminding us that model railways are fun too we also have vintage Hornby-Dublo, Tri-ang and Tri-ang Hornby operating.
There is also the opportunity to drive a full-size locomotive, as we will be operating ‘Driver for a Fiver’ footplate experience on one of our locomotives – when did you last do that at a Model Railway Exhibition? A suggested minimum donation of £5 and no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day. (Please note that you must be at least 18 years old and not older than 76 to take part in the footplate experience.)

Between watching the tiny trains and riding the big ones, take a break at our Station Café. We’ll have plenty of hot drinks, tasty snacks, and kid-friendly treats to keep your engines running all day long.
